The Haitian Alliance, Inc. is an official 2010 Census Partner. We are asking you to partner with us to help ensure a full and accurate count in 2010.
Historically, the Caribbean community, especially Haitians are under counted. An inaccurate count will have a detrimental long-term impact on our community.
- Every year, more than $300 billion in federal funds are awarded to states and communities based on census data. That's more than $3 trillion distributed over a 10-year period.
- Census data guide local decision-makers in important community planning efforts, including where to build new roads, hospitals, shools.
- Census data affect your voice in Congress. The census determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and voting districts.
The goal of this campaign is simple: Count Every Haitian as a Haitian!
When answering the question:"What is your race?"
We must all complete the form as follows:
- Check "Some other race", and
- Write in "Haitian", or "Haitian American".
The information collected by the census is protected by law and remains confidential for 72 years. So the action above, is for all Haitians, regardless of one's immigration status.

Thanks. I'm Brazilian-American and my wife is Haitian-American. I cannot believe, in the year 2010, that the choices on the census are so limited.
To me, they should either list every country in the world, or just make everyone print their origin out. That's the only fair solution -- listing certain races and then having "Some Other Race" is lame.
